SAK Joins In KC Suicide Prevention Event

SAK recently participated in the 16th Annual Suicide Awareness Survivor Support (SASS) Remembrance Community Walk for those who have lost a loved one from Suicide or other traumatic death.
Last year more than 400 walkers attended. With the help of donors, they were able to raise over $10,000. Money collected went to help educate and support suicide awareness in the community.
Suicide is a major health and social problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers, and the entire community. More than 1,000 lives are lost due to suicide in Kansas and Missouri each year, which is nearly, double that of homicides. Suicide rates around the nation are rising. As more lives are lost, more people are affected by the tragedy. Suicide Awareness Survivor Support is a group that was started by Bonnie Swade and her husband to help families affected by suicide in the Kansas City area.
Today the construction industry is one of the most heavily hit industries when it comes to suicide with more deaths coming from suicides than falls. The numbers are staggering, which is why it’s important to look out for each other and ask “How Are You” to your fellow co-workers.
