SAK executives, employees, family and friends were all on hand to celebrate the dedication of the largest tunnel boring machine in not just SAK’s history, but in the entire St. Louis region. Stationed nearly 185 feet below the Earth’s surface, the tunnel boring machine dubbed “Mrs. Nancy” stands nearly two stories tall and weighs more than 374,000 pounds.
Mrs. Nancy Kalishman, wife of the late underground construction pioneer Jerome “Jerry” Kalishman and mother of current SAK executives Tom and Jim Kalishman, was on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon and dedicate the gargantuan TBM named in her honor.
“It’s a great day”, exclaimed SAK CEO Tom Kalishman as he addressed employees, friends and family on hand. With the TBM now fully assembled, the unit will be shifted into place and begin digging a series of tunnels soon.
